RIP FORMER ADOLESCENT LADY-BONER:
growing up, this was my absolute favorite store on earth. from listening to my first sleater-kinney cd in the parking lot after school in 11th grade, to purchasing the myriad geeky star wars novels that had earlier gotten me through seventh grade, i positively adored Media Play. It was a shining beacon of cultural escape vehicles (books, music, movies, C3P0 cardboard cutouts) theretofore vacant in the dumbed down burbs of savannah.  actually, come to think of it, a substantial portion of my childhood memories revolves around this store. i remember buying that Blur CD with “song two” and blaring outta the parking lot, then being disappointed by the rest of the album on the 30 minute drive home. i was actually driving home from Media Play my senior year when i totalled my car, and i remember thinking, “if i had just picked up one more book and hung around a few seconds later, i wouldn’t have rear-ended those two cars.” there was also a burger king in the parking lot, and i loved the hell out of those cherry slushies.
oh, memories. i miss the hell outta this store.
